Introduction
Stock Historical Data Download is software that can download historical prices of stocks, indices and mutual funds publicly traded in US and Canadian markets. It produces data output in a plain text format and the user can customize the format to make it compatible to the specific charting or technical analysis tools. Daily, weekly, monthly, or dividends only options are provided to choose the interval to download. Command line arguments are provided for automation.

Quick Start
You can start downloading stock data just as easy as following 3 steps:
Step 1: Enter the stock symbol you would like to download next to the “Add Symbol” or you can open the .slist file to open the predefined list of stock symbols going to download. See the Frequently Asked Questions section for .slist file
Step 2: Choose the setting options to meet your data output requirement. See the Settings for the detail
Step 3: Hit the Update Button. The output data will be downloaded to the folder you specified in the settings.
Settings
The following is the sample screenshot of setting options available:
There are 5 setup sections in the setting window:
1. Data Output Setup:
Output Path: Specify the output path that the output data will be downloaded to
2. File Name Setup:
a. File Extension: Specify the file extension name
b. Postfix: Specify the postfix that is going to be added at the end of the file name. By default it is blank, which means no postfix will be added at the end of the default data output file name
3. Format Setup: This section provides you the flexibility to choose the data format you preferred
a. Date Format and Separator: By default the format is YYYYMMDD and separator is “/”. The dates in the output data file will look like “YYYY/MM/DD” (ex: 2001/12/01). You can specify the date format and separator according to your requirement
b. Add Symbol in Front: When this option is checked, the symbol name will be added in front of the output data
c. Reverse Order: By default the output data will have the most recently data as the first row. When this option is checked, the least recently data will be the first row
d. Add Header: When this option is checked, the text specified in the section “Header Content” will be added as the first line in the output data file.
e. Adj for Split/Dividend: Adjust the closing quote according to the split and dividend. By default this option is checked.
4. Header Content: This section provides you the flexibility to define the specific header text you would like to show in the output data file
5. Period Setup: This section provides you the option to specify the range of the historical data you would like to download. Besides that, you can choose daily, weekly, monthly, or dividends only data to download.
a. Time Interval: Specify the period of historical data you would like to download.
b. Custom Date: If this option is checked, you can specify the start date and end date of the historical data to download
Command Mode
Stock Historical Data Download supports command line argument to achieve the fully automation. It is done by reading the symbol list file (.slist), which includes the symbols going to be downloaded, and the setting file (.set), which includes the setting options that are going to be loaded to setting window.
Create/Load Symbol List file
We recommend you to create/load symbol list file (.slist) by following steps:
1. Add the symbols you want to save in the .slist file, then chose File->Save File->Symbol List to save the list into the file
2. To load the saved .slist file, simply choose the file from File->Open->Symbol List
Create/Load Setting File
We recommend you to create/load setting file by following step:
1. In the setting window, choose the setting you would like to save, then click OK
2. In the main window, choose File->Save File-> Setting to save the current setting into .set setting file
3. To load the saved .set file, simply choose the file from File->Open->Setting
Use the Command mode
Stock Historical Data Download supports the command mode by directly activating the exe file “StockDataDownload.exe” from the Windows console. The command mode has the general format:
StockDataDownload.exe -s “slist file” -o “setting file”
“slist file” is the target symbol list file.
“setting file” is the predefined setting file

A4: The quotes in the data file are extracted from Yahoo! Finance server. It means Yahoo! Finance server hasn’t updated today’s quote yet.
Q5: Why the quotes are different from what I saw from other sources?
A5: The quotes in the data file are extracted from Yahoo! Finance server. It means the data provided from Yahoo! Finance is different from other sources.
Q6: Why do I see "Not Valid Symbol" message?
A6: This message is a result of a incorrect stock symbol.
Q7: Why do I see “Connection Error” message?
A7: It means the internet is not accessible. Please check the network connection.
